Increasing COVID-19 case numbers have prompted the city school district in Anderson to postpone a return to full attendance in-person learning.  IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports.

Students at Anderson Community Schools wanting to attend classes in-person began the year on a hybrid partial attendance model, like many other districts in the state.  Elementary students had the option to return to classrooms full-time on September 28 – and the district says those students can stay.

Grades 5 through 12 were supposed to return to full attendance on October 19.  But now, ACS has told parents it will continue with the hybrid schedule through November 3.

Madison County is recording about 23 new average positive COVID cases a day – which is close to being deemed a “high spread” situation.  ACS officials say the extension will allow more time to monitor the county’s coronavirus trends and keep students safe.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Madison County was listed as a yellow county on the state health department’s COVID dashboard, with a positivity change trending upwards.  Those numbers are updated on Wednesday afternoon.
