9-1-1 dispatch centers in Delaware and Madison counties reported failures in their telephone systems for a few hours Thursday afternoon and evening.   WTHR-TV also reports phone problems affected 9-1-1 systems in Boone, Hancock, Hendricks, Green, and Shelby counties.

It’s not known if any single county’s system failure was connected to any other county’s system problems.

Text alerts from emergency management officials went out to cell phones alerting the public to the issue.  Some urged the public to text their emergency to 9-1-1 or to another number until 9-1-1 service could be repaired.

Most service was restored to the affected counties before 8:00 p.m.
