BSU WBB loses MAC tournament championship; Accepts WNIT bid
The MAC Women’s Basketball Tournament championship was decided in Cleveland on Saturday. 5th-seeded Ball State lost to second-seeded Buffalo 79 to 75. Ball State’s Ally Becki scored 20 points as did the Cards’ Thelma Dis Agustdottir.
Ball State defied the odds and the experts and made it to the championship game by beating the number 4 seed Northern Illinois, and top-seeded Toledo. Buffalo, meanwhile advanced to the NCAA tournament as the MAC’s automatic qualifier.
Ball State has accepted a bid to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). They will have familiar company in the 64-team field as Toledo, Akron, Kent State, and Ohio from the MAC also accepted bids. That’s five teams from the MAC in the WNIT – the most teams from any conference in the tournament.
The WNIT bracket with Round 1 game times will be announced today (Mon.) at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
