UCLA assistant coach Michael Lewis named the new BSU MBB head coach

UCLA Assistant Coach Michael Lewis has been named the new Ball State men’s head basketball coach. The announcement was made this (Fri.) morning by Ball State’s Director of Athletics Beth Goetz. Lewis will start his new job after UCLA finishes its season in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Lewis was a star player at Indiana University. He has spent 18 seasons as an assistant coach – the last three at UCLA.  Lewis was also an assistant coach at Nebraska, Butler and Eastern Illinois, and Stephen F. Austin. He was a graduate assistant at Texas Tech for Coach Bob Knight, and played for Knight at Indiana from 1996 to 2000.

The Jasper, Ind. native replaces James Whitford who was released after Ball State’s 2021-2022 campaign concluded.

Lewis and his wife, Nichole, have two daughters.
