Anderson schools face big budget deficit
The Anderson Community Schools Board was given startling, but unsurprising budget numbers Tuesday night. Business Manager Kevin Brown says the school district faces an $8.8 million budget shortfall by the year 2011. And by 2013, that shortfall could rise to more than $20 million. Brown says those are worst-case scenario numbers. In the best situation, A-C-S will have a 2011 budget shortfall of $800,000. For that to happen, voters will have to pass a tax referendum in November that adds 52 cents to the district’s tax rate. Brown also says he expects the district to lose 600 students next year.
