I-69 exit numbers will change

Exit signs on I-69 will soon have new numbers, thanks to the road’s extension in southern Indiana.  Beginning on Monday, state Department of Transportation road crews will begin changing mile marker and exit sign numbers – adding 200 miles to each number.  Muncie’s exit 41 will become exit 241.  Anderson exit 26 will become exit 226.  Exit zero near the I-465 interchange will become exit 200.  The renumbering will accommodate new exits on I-69’s extension between Indianapolis and Evansville.

INDOT says crews will begin changing signs at the I-465 interchange and travel up northbound I-69 for the first leg of work.  Some lanes may be shutdown during the night so that workers can change overhead signs.  INDOT says that for three years, exit signs will show both the new exit number and the previous exit number.  The previous numbers will be removed from all signs by the year 2017.

And according to the state, a 65-mile portion of the new extension from Evansville to the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center is expected to open by the end of the year.
