Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock resigns
Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock has announced he’s resigning from his statewide office, effective today. Mourdock was set to leave office at the end of the year, term-limited from running again. Now, he says he will leave after today to “pursue other professional interests.”
Governor Mike Pence is appointing Daniel Huge to the office on an interim basis. Huge is a CPA and is the Chief Financial Officer of the Indiana Finance Authority. Pence says Huge will run the office temporarily, and a permanent replacement will come later. Two candidates are vying for the statewide office on the November ballot. Republican Kelly Mitchell was working in the State Treasurer’s office until she resigned this month to focus on her campaign. Democrat Mike Boland is a former Illinois lawmaker.
