Ball State University says it has raised more money than expected to update athletic facilities on the campus. The Muncie school’s capital campaign hoped to raise $20 million by December of 2014. School officials announced today that it surpassed that goal – raising $20.6 million.

Ball State hired a new athletic director this month. At his introduction at Worthen Arena, Mark Sandy said the condition of athletic facilities is vital to recruiting.

The money will go towards renovating Ball State’s baseball and softball fields and building new training facilities for basketball, volleyball, and golf. The football complex will also get an addition.
