State Constitutional Amendment on Redistricting Stalled

By Network Indiana | Published on in Uncategorized

(STATEHOUSE) – A constitutional amendment to let an independent commission draw Indiana‘s legislative and congressional districts has hit a speed bump. Senate Elections Chairman Greg Walker (R-Columbus) says the intent is merely to give legislators permission to outsource redistricting. It would take a separate bill to decide to actually do so, and even then, legislators might retain the final authority over the maps. But several committee members were concerned the wording of the amendment wouldn‘t just allow but require a commission.
