Indiana Governor headed to China on economic development trip

By Stephanie Wiechmann | Published on in Uncategorized

Indiana Governor Mike Pence has announced his next overseas trip to help attract foreign businesses to Indiana. This time, he’s headed to China – specifically to the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Indiana’s sister-state Hangzhou.

The trip scheduled for May will be Pence’s sixth international trip for economic development purposes. He’s traveled to Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Israel. State economic development officials say this trip, like those before, is being funded by private donations.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation says between the years 2009 and 2011, foreign companies created almost 12,000 new jobs in Indiana. Pence did not take office as governor until 2013.
