Regional Cities Initiative presentations bring ideas for state grant money

By Keagan Beresford and Stephanie Wiechmann | Published on in Uncategorized

Regional teams are presenting ideas to state officials this week in Indianapolis in hopes of being awarded part of 84 million dollars in state money though the Regional Cities Initiative. Seven regions are presenting ideas. Today, the East Central Indiana region gave ideas for Blackford, Delaware, Henry, Jay, Madison, and Randolph counties.  Lori Luther is part of the IU Health chain of hospitals.

Presenters said communities need to support entrepreneurs, cultural amenities, and municipal projects to make the region attractive to young, skilled employees. Regional ideas presented included a White River Canal District, an arts park and library space in New Castle, a greenway trail in Portland, redevelopment of the downtown area of Daleville, and revitalizing the historic Wigwam gymnasium in Anderson. State officials say recommendations about which regions’ projects will be funded will come in December.
