Faith leaders and Syrian families meet in Indianapolis

By Alexander McCall | Published on in Uncategorized

Leaders from Indiana’s Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths will gather with Syrian refugee families tonight in Indianapolis to send the message that they’re welcome in the Hoosier State.

Syrian American Council spokesperson Omar Hossino says Governor Mike Pence was invited to attend Friday night’s meeting but has declined because of a scheduling conflict. The meeting comes a few days after the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis resettled a Syrian family in Indianapolis over the objections of the governor.

Hossino says Pence is a “good man with noble intentions” but says his concerns about Syrian refugees are rooted in misinformation.  Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller will attend the meeting tonight.
