Ball State Has “Neu” Head Football Coach
(MUNCIE) – The Ball State football program has a “Neu” head coach. New Orleans Saints Quarterbacks Coach Mike Neu has been named the new head football coach for the Cardinals. The announcement came from Ball State officials, Thursday afternoon. Neu was Ball State’s quarterback from 1990 to 1993. He was named 1993 Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Neu has 15 years of coaching experience with stops in the National Football League (NFL), Tulane University, and the arena leagues.
Neu and his family arrived last night at the Muncie airport, where Ball State All-Access caught up with the new coach, who is eager to get started.
Neu played professionally in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League (AFL) from 1995-97 before beginning his coaching career in 1998 with the AFL’s Nashville Kats. Neu spent four years as head coach of the AFL’s New Orleans VooDoo. There, he earned the 2004 AFL Coach of the Year honors.
The new coach received his bachelor’s degree in sport administration from Ball State in 1994. He was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. Neu replaces Pete Lembo who left BSU in December for an assistant coaching position at the University of Maryland.
