Lawmakers Still Wrestling with Sunday Alcohol Sales
(STATEHOUSE) The latest attempt to legalize Sunday alcohol sales drops last year’s requirement that supermarkets keep alcohol in a separate part of the store or behind the counter. That proposal was so strict that the usual antagonists on the issue swapped sides, with liquor stores endorsing the bill and supermarkets successfully lobbying to kill it. This year, the only restriction would be to ban stores from putting alcohol next to toys, candy, cereal or school supplies.
