Indiana Supreme Court interviews begin Wednesday

By Stephanie Wiechmann | Published on in Uncategorized

The nation’s highest court isn’t the only one looking to fill a vacancy. Twenty-nine Hoosiers are vying to become Indiana’s next Supreme Court justice and three days of public interviews for the position begin tomorrow in Indianapolis. A newly elected justice will replace Justice Brent Dickson, who announced last month he’d retire at the end of April, before reaching the court’s mandatory retirement age of 75 in July.

Candidates from the IPR area include Henry County Circuit Court Judge Kit Crane, Wayne Superior Court Judge Darrin Dolehanty, and Bryce Owens, of the law firm Owens and Owens of Pendleton.

After this week’s interviews, the state Judicial Nominating Commission will conduct a second round of interviews at the beginning of March for finalist candidates. It will then send three nominees to Governor Mike Pence. Pence has 60 days to choose one person to take the job.
