Former Indianapolis Mayor Ballard Honored by LGBT Business Group
Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is set to be honored by an LGBT business group. The Indy Rainbow Chamber of Commerce is presenting Ballard with a plaque June 1st for his work in advocating gay rights issues. The group praises Ballard for embracing diversity and opposing discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Hoosiers. Ballard’s most notable effort came last year when he was a vocal opponent of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act signed into law by Gov. Mike Pence. He was succeeded as mayor by Democrat Joe Hogsett in January after choosing not to run for re-election.
