Alexander Rossi took the checkered flag at the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Running on fumes on the final lap, Rossi was still able to cross the finish line 4.4975 seconds ahead of teammate Carlos Munoz.

It was Rossi’s first Verizon IndyCar Series victory and he became the first rookie to win the Indianapolis 500 since Helio Castroneves in 2001.

After Rossi and Munoz were Josef Newgarden, Tony Kanaan and Charlie Kimball. Polesitter James Hinchcliffe finished in seventh.
