Planned Parenthood closing Muncie facility

By The Star Press | Published on in Uncategorized

The Muncie health care center of Planned Parenthood on West Fox Ridge Lane on the city’s northwest side is closing, Friday.  Reduced patient traffic is cited as the reason.

The Star Press reports Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky CEO Betty Cockrum, said the closing is part of a national trend in reproductive services, but in a way it’s a good trend.

Cockrum says changes in pap test protocols, the use of IUDs, and availability of over-the-counter emergency contraception are factors in the national trend.

Planned Parenthood is encouraging its current patients to get care locally at the Open Door Family Planning clinic on South Walnut Street.  The closest remaining Planned Parenthood facility in Fort Wayne.
