IPFW Chancellor Vicky Carwein is responding to a vote of “no confidence” issued Friday by some faculty members in the wake of announced program cuts at the Fort Wayne university. The cuts are part of a restructuring plan.

The plan will eliminate women’s studies, geology and philosophy degree programs. It will also put other programs on hold. School officials said budget cuts and dropping enrollment were the reasons for the restructuring.

Carwein said the school has lost 30 percent of its enrollment since 2011, and that while the move seems a surprise to some, it’s been discussed “for four years.” She said maybe more could have been done, but that college leadership has tried “very hard” to communicate with the campus.
