No charges planned for Purdue football players accused of sexual assault
Purdue University officials and the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office do not plan any further sanctions against four football players accused of sexual assault following an off-campus party earlier this semester.
In a statement today, Purdue Vice President for Strategic Communications Julie Rosa – who declined a taped interview with Indiana Public Broadcasting – says the players had been suspended from the team and the investigation was ongoing. Their names have not been released.
Fishers-based lawyer Mario Massillamany is representing the two female accusers. He says his clients’ words in a report filed with the West Lafayette Police Department are inaccurate and do not reflect what happened the night of the October 13 event, when the accusers allege the players gave them alcohol and engaged in inappropriate or unwanted sexual behavior.
Athletics Department spokesman Tom Schott, who also declined a taped interview, says the players were suspended from the program by then-coach Darrell Hazell earlier this year – but could not say exactly when.
