Purdue University trustees vote to split IPFW

Trustees at Purdue University today approved splitting Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Beginning in mid-218, the Fort Wayne multi-system metropolitan university would become regional campuses of IU and Purdue.
Indiana University trustees also voted in favor of the plan earlier this month. But neither board voted unanimously to okay the split. IPFW faculty member and Purdue trustee Gary Lehman cast one of three “no” votes.
IU and Purdue now have six months to work out the finer points of the plan, before trustees must sign off on them next June. The two schools based in Bloomington and Lafayette would each administer certain disciplines on the Fort Wayne campus. For example, IU would take over Purdue’s nursing program and Purdue would take over the IPFW music program.
