High Winds, Equipment Failure Cut Power in Muncie and Elsewhere in Northern Indiana
High winds caused power outages in northern Indiana Wednesday, and a sub-station line problem cut power in the Muncie area – including parts of the city’s center — around the same time yesterday morning. Indiana-Michigan Power says around 5,000 customers were in the dark in the Muncie area because of an equipment problem.
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, around 6,500 customers in the Fort Wayne area were without power, likely due to high winds.
Wind gusts in Muncie reached 53 mph. Fort Wayne had a 54 mph gust, yesterday afternoon.
