Marsh Supermarkets To Stop Selling Hard Liquor After Selling Pharmacies
Your local Marsh Supermarket might have empty alcohol shelves today after a surprise sale on hard liquor. Because of Indiana’s complicated liquor laws, Marsh must stop selling hard liquor products when pharmacy operations cease at the Indiana-based grocery stores.
Marsh sold the pharmacy business to CVS, with prescription information being transferred to nearby CVS locations on a staggered basis starting Wednesday. According to Indiana laws, grocery stores can sell beer and wine, but not hard liquor. Only a grocery store with a pharmacy can get a license to sell hard liquor as a drug store.
A Marsh Supermarkets spokesperson says wine and beer sales will continue, but in the 37 locations where pharmacies are being removed, hard liquor sales will end once pharmacy operations cease.
Hoosiers on social media quickly spread the word that many locations were selling liquor for up to 40 percent off, with many reporting locations have already sold out of available stock.
