The 44 remaining Marsh grocery stores will go to auction next Monday as the Indiana company’s bankruptcy process continues.

In a statement released last night after a deadline for bids, the Fishers-based grocery chain says it received multiple offers for its assets.  Those multiple bids triggered Monday’s auction.

The winning buyer may choose to keep some Marsh stores open, convert them to another chain’s brand, or close the stores entirely.  Bidding rules do say that any Marsh buyer cannot operate a pharmacy in the stores for five years, after Marsh sold its pharmacy business to CVS in April.

Many Marsh stores have already shut down as the company struggles to stay afloat. Marsh officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May.  A decade ago, the chain operated nearly 120 stores.
