Published on in Crime, Law

An inmate has died at the Madison County Jail and Sheriff Scott Mellinger has asked the Indiana State Police to investigate.

Police say 56-year-old Loretta Neese was found unresponsive in her cell just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. She was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson where she was pronounced dead. Police do not yet know the cause of death.

Authorities say Elwood police arrested Neese in the early morning hours of July 25 for operating a vehicle while being suspended as a habitual traffic offender, possession of a legend drug or precursor and operator never having been licensed.  She was booked into the Madison County Jail at 5:06 a.m. on July 25.
