Police and fire personnel in Muncie investigated a suspicious package Thursday afternoon at the Marathon gas station at Tillotson and Bethel, across from the Ball State football stadium.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Joe Krupa said no bomb threat was called in, however a beeping sound was heard coming from a trash can at the gas station. Krupa confirmed the beeping came from a discarded smoke detector.

Adjacent businesses were evacuated and Bethel and Tillotson Avenues were closed near the gas station until authorities declared an all clear.
