As President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence get set to visit Indiana this week and next, Indiana Congressman and US Senate Candidate Luke Messer says he’s pleased to see the federal government talk seriously about tax reform.  IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports.

Sixth District Republican Luke Messer is running in a crowded GOP field to challenge Democrat incumbent US Senator Joe Donnelly for his seat next November.

But Messer has talked about major US tax reform since he was elected to Congress for the first time in 2012.  He says reform plans that Trump will tout will include relief for workers and will create new jobs.

“I think you’ll see a tax plan that provides tax cuts for working Americans through increasing the standard deduction and simplifying the tax code for the vast majority of Americans.  And then drops the small business and corporate rates back to where we’re competitive with businesses around the globe.”

Messer says small businesses in America pay over 40 percent in taxes, which he calls “out of line.”

Messer was in Muncie hosting an annual Congressional district job fair, a tradition started by his predecessor in the 6th District, Mike Pence.
