An Indiana trailer manufacturer says it’s opening a second factory in Grant County and will begin production next month.  As IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports, the announcement from Bristol-based Stealth Trailers brings a promise of up to 115 new jobs by the year 2020.

Stealth Trailers is leasing a 48,000 square foot building in Marion that was home to Earthwise Plastics until it moved to a bigger building in nearby Gas City.  The company says workers in Marion will weld trailers, assemble them, and do final finishing.  Officials say equipment is being installed and production will begin in Marion on October 1st.

Stealth’s Bristol factory has 175 workers.  In Marion, the company says it is hiring production supervisors, welders, office staff, and general laborers.

The company will receive $600,000 in state tax credits and $70,000 in training grants from Governor Eric Holcomb’s new Next Level Jobs initiative.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation says one in every five Hoosiers is employed in the manufacturing sector.  It’s the second-highest employed industry in Grant County, after healthcare and social service jobs.  And it’s one of the most accessible, with only 17 percent of Grant County residents holding a college degree.
