A large fire extensively damaged an industrial building just south of Muncie’s downtown, Sunday afternoon.   A plume of black smoke could be seen for miles from the site of the blaze in the 900 block of South Mound Street.

The Star Press reports all but one Muncie fire engine fought the blaze.  Volunteer firefighters from Delaware county stood by at city fire stations.  The fire damaged two other nearby businesses.  Muncie firefighters were able to knock down the blaze in short order, keeping damage to a minimum to other buildings in the area.

Investigators from the Muncie Fire Department contacted the state fire marshal’s office to help find the cause of the fire.
