Ball State University’s first lady, Jennifer Mearns, has spent her career in public relations and executive recruitment.  This week, she spoke to both Ball State students and the community about how that path has lead her to some unexpected places.

Mearns says she’s worked at Madison Square Garden and traveled the world with the Men’s International Professional Tennis Council.  She says her best tools have been persistence and networking.  While speaking to Ball State students, she had some advice.

“It’s okay not to know exactly what you’re going to do and that nobody can expect you to know that.  And also not to be disappointed if you don’t, in your first job, get that exact job you’re looking for.”

Mearns encouraged students and professionals to work hard in whatever job they have to continue to get where they want to go.
