Flooding has become a big problem across parts of Northern Indiana. A local disaster emergency has been declared in South Bend by Mayor Pete Buttigieg after flooding across the city. Many homes and businesses along the St. Joseph River have been flooded and classes at IU South Bend are canceled for today (Thurs.).  Residents in student apartments near campus were advised to evacuate.  There is high water across many roads in Northern Indiana.  The Fort Wayne Street Department is giving free sand and sandbags on a first-come first-serve basis.  Eight shelters have been opened in northern-most Indiana.  Some area residents have been evacuated from their homes by rescue crews using boats.
