In 2008, using nationally representative survey data on global warming beliefs, behaviors and policy preferences in the United States, Yale and George Mason Universities identified six distinct groups of Americans – “Global Warming’s Six Americas.”

The six Americas are defined by their perspectives on global warming: their belief in the science, perception of threat, and willingness to civically engage in the politics surrounding the issue.

Yale and George Mason Universities have tracked the size of each Americas since 2008.
