One of Ball State University’s oldest fraternities is being shut down after its national board of directors revoked the chapter’s charter.

Theta Chi’s Delta Kappa chapter is being shut down immediately.  Neither the school nor Theta Chi’s national organization, headquartered in Carmel, have given a specific reason for its closing.

Justin Concannon is the president of the school’s Interfraternity Council.  He tells NewsLink Indiana that he was told at the beginning of the school year the fraternity wouldn’t have a recruitment class this year while the chapter was being investigated.

” Now that the investigations have gone on by both the Ball State administration and the Theta Chi fraternity headquarters, they came up with the decision that the Theta Chi Fraternity headquarters was going to revoke their charter. So at this time they are working to see if Theta Chi can come back at all or when that will be eventually.”

About ten years ago, the chapter won back-to-back national awards for being one of the most outstanding chapters of Theta Chi in the country.

Ball State spokeswoman Kathy Wolf says all students living in the fraternity’s house on Riverside Avenue will have to find new housing arrangements.  She says the school is helping with that.
