U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) sought a big endorsement Friday night, having former Vice President Joe Biden stump for him Hammond. Donnelly is in a tight race with Republican challenger Mike Braun.

Donnelly thanked attendees for helping him win in 2012.

“Six years ago they said I could never win the U.S. Senate race,” he says. “And I said wait until you see what happens in northwest Indiana and this election coming up.”

Donnelly, who’s trying to court votes from a bipartisan crowd, noted that Democrats who voted for him and Republicans who voted for late-Sen. John McCain, were key in preserving the Affordable Care Act.

“You saved health care for the people of the United States of America,” says Donnelly.

Biden says he thinks the election is bigger than politics.

“This is the most important election you have ever voted in no matter how old or young you are. And that’s a fact,” says Biden. “Because our basic American values are under assault.”

Current Vice President Mike Pence was also in Indiana Friday to stump for Braun in Indianapolis.
