2018 High School Graduation Rates Nearly Identical To 2017

Indiana’s high school graduation rate for 2018 remained about the same as last year, at 88.1 percent. That’s about a 1 percent increase from 2017, according to data from the Indiana Department of Education.

Nearly 8 percent of graduates failed to pass the final exams required to earn a diploma and received a waiver from the state.

Virtual and adult learning charter schools show some of the lowest graduation rates – Indiana Virtual Academy graduated only 2 percent of its cohort.

The department also released federal graduation data because accountability measures differ at the state level. Indiana’s 2018 federal graduation rate calculations are slightly lower because they don’t include students who graduated with a general diploma. But lawmakers passed a law last year to align the state’s diploma with federal rules.
