Magna Powertrain Upgrading Muncie Plant, Adding Jobs
A Muncie auto parts manufacturing facility will soon receive an upgrade that will also create 50 new jobs. IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports.
Magna Powertrain of America is based in Michigan and has had a drivetrain components plant in Muncie since 2006. Now, the company will spend $9.3 million to add new equipment to the Cowan Road site.
That investment also comes with 50 new full-time jobs to add to the 461 jobs the company says it has in Muncie.
Magna says those new positions will pay “an average wage above the county average for manufacturing.” Magna is directing all job seekers to its online career website, but it currently has no jobs listed in Indiana.
Overall, including all job types, Delaware County has the lowest median household income in the entire state, sitting more than $12,000 below the state average.
In support of the project, the Delaware County Council unanimously approved a 10-year tax abatement for the Magna upgrade. The company says its improvements will be complete by April 2020.
