The University of Notre Dame will host the first presidential debate for the 2020 election.  As Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Annacaroline Caruso reports, it’s the first time the school will host a presidential debate.

Notre Dame President, Rev. John Jenkins, made the announcement this morning after being elected to his fourth 5-year term by the school’s board of trustees.

“I think our democracy so badly needs a place where we can have serious conversations.”

Julia Dodig, a junior at Notre Dame, is curious to see how the campus handles the debates.

“This campus is really polarized in terms of Democrat and Republican so it’ll be cool to see how it goes down.”

The debate is scheduled for September 29, 2020 at Purcell Pavilion.

The University of Michigan and Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee will host the other two presidential debates next year. Candidates for vice president will debate at the University of Utah.
