The Indiana State Department of Health says Madison County has its first positive case of the COVID-19 illness.  As IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports, this comes on a day where nine new cases were announced statewide.

As usual, no identifying details of that person are being released.  Madison County health officials say they’re working to inform anyone who’s had close contact with that person.

In an interview last week, county health department administrator Stephenie Grimes says this is what they’re trained to do.

“When we have a case and that contact tracing or that case investigation begins, the Health Department itself will really ramp up and put personnel in charge of tracking down those people and notifications and that sort of thing.”

Grimes says a local task force of Madison County officials from hospitals, schools, government, and more have been continually meeting to make decisions on how to keep county residents safe from exposure.
