A man who died in a car crash on I-69 Monday afternoon is being remembered locally as a popular varsity basketball coach and physical education teacher at Cowan Junior-Senior High School.

Lee Ingles, 50, died unexpectedly Monday on I-69 in Madison County. In the accident, Beau White from Kokomo was driving northbound when he veered off the road, over the median, through a cable barrier to the southbound lanes, and hit Ingles’ car nearly head-on.  Ingles died at the scene.  White was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ingles taught and coached at Cowan since 2014.  The school says the last game he coached was a win – a Cowan sectional championship over Daleville last season, the school’s second-ever sectional title.

Indiana State Police is searching for witnesses to the fatal crash.  State police say if you witnessed the crash at about 2:30pm on I-69 near mile marker 227 in Madison County, you’re asked to call the Pendleton police post at 1-800-527-4752.
