Monroe County NAACP President Speaks Out On Chauvin Verdict
The head of the Monroe County chapter of the NAACP said justice has been served in the George Floyd murder case.
Floyd, a Black man, died while in police custody on May 25, 2020. Former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin was caught on camera with his knee on Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes.
Chauvin was convicted on 2nd and 3rd degree murder charges Tuesday.

Monroe County’s NAACP chapter president William Vance says he is pleased with the verdict.
He said if police do a better job policing their own ranks, they will earn the trust of the community.
“When they take the initiative and do what’s right, it’ll make their lives easier, and they can get out in the community, and do the community policing that we’ve talked about,” he said.
Vance said he appreciates how the Bloomington Police Dept. disciplines its own employees.
Earlier this month Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a police reform bill into law that bans chokeholds and provides for mandatory de-escalation training.
