Angela Wible’s 12th wedding anniversary is this week. She said she and her husband go to different zoos “almost religiously” to celebrate. But this year, they can’t afford that small luxury.

“We’re going to have to put it off and do it another day because we’re still waiting for them to get unemployment started back up,” she said.

Wible has a lung disease and currently relies on federal benefits to pay bills and groceries. So to her and many other unemployed Hoosiers, it’s welcome news that following a court order, DWD is reopening federal benefits Friday.

The details come after the agency announced it will turn benefits back on to comply with a court order. Gov. Eric Holcomb ended them on June 19 in an effort to push workers towards unfilled jobs.

The agency also confirmed it plans to make up payments people would have received last month if they were still eligible for assistance. That includes payments for self-employed workers (PUA), mixed income earners (MEUC), those who exhausted state benefits (PEUC), and an extra $300 boost to regular benefits (FPUC).
