A Ball State University student died in a Friday early morning single car crash on the Muncie school’s campus.

According to the Delaware County coroner’s office, Braden Reynolds was pronounced dead at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital after the 2:00 AM crash.  He is a Muncie-area native, recently graduating from Delta High School.  Friday is his 19th birthday.

Police say as Reynolds was driving near campus early Friday morning, he clipped another vehicle.  As he continued to drive at a high rate of speed down Riverside Avenue on the Ball State campus, his car left the street, struck a tree, and came to rest on its side by the Teacher’s College building.

Police say Reynolds was partially ejected from the vehicle, which caught on fire.  Three Muncie police officers pulled the teen from the car through the sun roof.  That car was removed from campus mid-day on Friday.

Ball State University says out of respect to the student and his family, the university has no comment.  Local police are continuing to investigate.
