Indiana’s last elected state schools superintendent has taken a new job in education – as the interim superintendent of Oak Hill United School Corporation.  It’s a rural district that borders Grant and Miami counties.

That district’s board approved the interim hire at a Wednesday night board meeting.  McCormick will begin leading the district with 1,700 students on Friday, while the board conducts a search for a permanent leader.  Its previous superintendent began in 2020 and has left for a Crawfordsville school corporation.

Oak Hill’s chief financial officer has worked with McCormick before, most recently at the Indiana Department of Education.

McCormick was in the state’s top education post from 2017 to 2021.  Two years into her tenure, she announced she wouldn’t run again.  That prompted the state legislature to move up the deadline to make state schools superintendent an appointed post from 2024 to 2021.

Before running for state office, McCormick was superintendent of Delaware County’s Yorktown Schools.

McCormick’s online LinkedIn resume also has her listed as working at a data analytics firm and leading the board of an Indianapolis architecture firm.
