National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters in Indianapolis have issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of central Indiana from 10 a.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday.  Six to nine inches of snow with a light glaze of ice could fall on Madison, Delaware, and Randolph counties.

NWS Meteorologist Aaron Updike says, “The ingredients are there for the possibility of heavy snowfall.”  Trends, he said, can still shift north or south affecting the amount of snowfall for a given area.

Wind gusts from the northeast to 35 mph are anticipated, complicating visibility for travel, and straining tree limbs and power lines.  The strongest winds are forecast for late Sunday night into Monday morning, complicating the Monday morning commute.

NWS forecasters say in their Winter Storm Warning that “Persons should consider delaying all travel.  Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.”  Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous, according to the weather service.

North of Muncie, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday.  Three to five inches of snow are expected in Grant, Blackford, and Jay counties, with lesser snowfall expected north of those counties.  Hazardous travel is anticipated.
