Tillotson Ave. lane restrictions will be removed. But the relief is temporary
The city of Muncie says drivers on Tillotson Avenue will get a break from construction barriers and lane restrictions. But the relief is only temporary.
Last month, Indiana Michigan Power announced it would extend its work on Tillotson Avenue through next summer. Crews found a necessary “underground duct bank” needed to be reconstructed to continue laying new underground power lines.
In a Wednesday afternoon community update video on Facebook, Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour said the city worked with the power company to temporarily remove the construction barriers.
“Because they’re not able to work right now in this weather, and so until the weather gets better and they can start sometime in the early spring, they’re going to take those barricades down.”
Barriers will be removed sometime on Thursday.
Ridenour did not give a specific date on when lane restrictions and construction will begin again. Indiana Michigan Power also has not updated the project’s online page with specific dates.
Last month, I&M addressed driver frustration in its statement in expanding the project’s timeline.
“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to get things back to normal for our neighbors in Muncie,” said Rob Keisling, external affairs manager. “We continue to work with the city and road repaving will be coordinated when the project is complete.
