Muncie’s longtime District 34 Representative says she isn’t running for reelection in 2026.

Sue Errington (D-Muncie) has spent 14 years in the House of Representatives and before that spent four years in the state Senate.

In a statement, Errington says “it’s time to pass the torch to someone else with similar Hoosier values and passion to serve the public.”

A former teacher and Planned Parenthood public policy director, Errington has championed bills in the Statehouse for reproductive health care, public education and universal pre-K, and environmental issues.  Since 2019, Errington submitted bills to add the concept of consent to Indiana’s definition of rape.  The bill didn’t succeed until 2022 and had to be submitted by a Republican lawmaker.

Errington is endorsing Democrat Muncie City Council person Sara Gullion to run for the District 34 seat and says she will be running Gullion’s campaign.

In a statement announcing her candidacy, Gullion says she’s centered her local political work on accountability, transparency, and fairness.  She also says having local government experience gives her perspective “how state-level decisions impact everyday life.”
