Joann McKinney

Membership and Individual Giving Manager

Joann’s broadcasting career began as a summer intern with WBST and has now come full circle. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television from the University of Arizona—where she also completed internships with a local ABC affiliate and an independent TV station in Tucson—Joann returned to Indiana to focus on marketing and advertising.

She worked for Indianapolis-based advertising firm CVR, representing a wide range of clients, from the Indianapolis Airport Authority to the National Precast Concrete Association. Joann later returned to Muncie, where she promoted the city through roles with the Muncie Visitors Bureau and Rutter Media. She then spent nearly 25 years leading efforts to grow the community’s economic impact through tourism as President and CEO of the Horizon Convention Center.

Joann has received numerous honors, including a Cable Advertising Award, Rotarian of the Year for Central Indiana, and Supplier of the Year from the Indiana Society of Association Executives.

She is passionate about improving the communities she serves and ensuring they thrive for future generations. Joann served two terms as an elected official in the Town of Daleville and has led major community initiatives, including the Muncie Family YMCA’s Invest in Youth Campaign and the United Way Campaign for Muncie/Delaware County. Her board and volunteer service includes the Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, Shafer Leadership Academy, Nonprofit Support Network, and the Refugee Alliance of Delaware County. She currently serves on the board leadership team of A Better Way and as Inbound Coordinator for Rotary International’s Youth Exchange program in Central Indiana.

Joann is married to local attorney Mark McKinney and is grateful to have their two children, Hannah and Will, living in Muncie. A longtime listener, current employee, and former PBS Kid, she enjoys PBS NewsHour and IPR’s Morning Edition—especially Stan’s musical selections on windy days—as well as a wide range of books and games.
