Gearbox: Muncie is now MadJax
A large maker’s space project in Muncie has announced it is renaming itself, about a year after initially announcing the project.
In June of last year, a city organization turning the former Cintas uniform building in downtown Muncie into a maker’s space named the project Gearbox:Muncie – A Maker Hub. This week, the building has put up a new sign, announcing it as Madjax: the Muncie Maker Force.
Michael Wolfe with Sustainable Muncie says the new name comes from the building’s location at the corner of Madison and Jackson streets and the concept of the makers being a force in the community.
The project is being backed by Ball State University and received a $1 million loan from the Muncie City Council earlier this year. Wolfe says construction has been continuing on the building to accommodate new tenants, which he says Sustainable Muncie will announce soon.
