Two IPR-area manufacturing companies are among the first Hoosier businesses to receive money from a new state program announced in May to support manufacturing during the coronavirus pandemic.  IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports.

When announcing the Manufacturing Readiness Grants in late May, state officials said the program was intended to focus on long-term solutions for the state’s manufacturing industry.

A total of $4 million was made available, and the state is releasing the first $2 million to 20 businesses.

Mursix Corporation in Yorktown is getting more than $116,000 in grant money.  It usually specializes in stamping and component manufacturing.  During the pandemic, it’s been making face shields and parts for respiratory-assist devices.

Advanced Cabinet Systems in Marion will receive $83,000.  The plastic and laminate furniture maker says it’s investing in equipment to modernize production.

The state says the grants require a minimum dollar-for-dollar match, so these businesses will be spending more in total to sustain and grow.
