Delaware County Republicans have selected Roza Selvey to replace Richard Ivy on the Muncie City Council.  This lets Ivy transition to becoming Muncie’s deputy mayor.

Known mostly as “Ro,” Selvey is a Lebanese-American and a teacher at Southside Middle School.  She has been involved heavily in local GOP politics, like leading the Delaware County Republican Women’s Club.  Selvey’s husband, Steve, is the Muncie building commissioner – a position appointed by Republican Mayor Dan Ridenour.

Five candidates ran to hold the city council seat.  In a caucus room where only candidates and officials were allowed because of COVID-19 precautions, Selvey won in the first round of voting.  Official vote totals were not released.

On Facebook, Selvey says she is “deeply honored” at being chosen.  She was officially sworn-in after the vote.  Her first council meeting is January 4.

In January, Delaware County Democrats will also convene a caucus to replace a city council member.  District 3 councilman Ray Dudley is stepping down to become chief of security at Muncie Community Schools.
